Onboarding E-Learning for the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM)
Background
The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) is a not-for-profit organization that has a small staff (<200) that serves over 7,000 members who are professionals in the field of addiction medicine. The Learning Development and Innovation Team runs an internship program that offers emerging instructional designers the opportunity to apply academic knowledge to a real-world context and contribute to the mission of the organization.
This project was the culminating project during my ASAM internship.
The Challenge
Prior to the development of this e-learning, interns onboarded by attending an hour-long lecture using a slide deck. The primary complaint about the onboarding was that it was long and overwhelming due to the amount of information discussed. My challenge as an instructional designer was to use the slide deck as the basis for an interactive, self-paced e-learning that could be used for future interns.
Methods
At the beginning of the project, I met with the Internship Supervisor to understand the scope and needs for the e-learning course. I also reached out to several past interns to understand their experience with the internship. Then, I created a storyboard and requested feedback from the Internship Supervisor. After revising the storyboard, I developed the e-learning course using Articulate Rise, Genially, Adobe Acrobat, and SnagIt.
Deliverables
I created a full e-learning course using Articulate Rise, Genially, and SnagIt.
